Z-432-1, codenamed "Limited-Time Imaginary Friend" or simply Imaginary Friend, is a passive monster that was added in Pressure in the "Friendly Fire Update" on 8/9/2024. It can only be summoned via the Toy Remote.

Appearance

Imaginary Friend is a ghostly red figure with a smooth, elongated body that tapers towards the bottom, giving a shadowy and eerie appearance. She has a rounded head with large, empty black eyes and a small, dark mouth that adds to her unsettling look. Her short, fin-like arms curve slightly inward. Something also appears to surround her neck. The overall design of Imaginary Friend gives her a minimalist yet eerie presence, resembling a spectral creature with a haunting, otherworldly charm.

Mechanics

Imaginary Friend does not attack the player and is fixed to stay at a 40-stud distance from them, at the place she initially appeared in. She will occasionally speak every 30 seconds upon her activation. If not looked at for a long time, Imaginary-Friend will get really close⁽¹⁾ to the player both of their pupils will open greatly as well as their mouth opening wide, attempting to scare them. Imaginary-Friend appears closer when at the sides of the player's screen, but appears smaller when approaching the center, This is because of FOV stretching/barrel distortion.

Encountering Imaginary Friend for the first time will reward the player with the "Lonely No Longer" badge.
It is possible to get rid of Imaginary Friend during a run by dying and then reviving via a Ferryman's Token.
Imaginary Friend is said to disappear in 48 hours after activating a Toy Remote in its related document, however due to how short a run lasts in-game, it is unlikely an actual feature in the game.
In the new Four Point Five update imaginary friend can warn you about node monsters, with voicelines such as "don't let it see you."
Upon finishing the game, Imaginary friend will watch the player leave before disappearing.
After the Four point Five update, if you enter Sebastian's shop while having the Imaginary Friend active, Sebastian will, in a way interact with them, asking them to stop whispering while the player is inside the shop.
Despite looking like a 2D PNG, Imaginary Friend is actually a 3D model.
- It is possible to see its full 3D model when enabling Freecam.
- It is also possible to see the 3D model when cutsences are commencing. (Searchlights, grabbing the Crystal in the control room)
Sometimes, players can hear some voicelines from the Imaginary Friend, despite it not being there. Her voicelines are most likely just used as ambience.
While the Imaginary Friend is following you, certain pronouns will change to plural, and seemingly from the viewpoint of Imaginary friend (eg. ‘A turret has locked on to us!’)
- This can also happen even when the player has not activated the Imaginary Friend. (the reason it says "us" is because the character we play as is self aware that it's being controlled by US (you, the player), so it sometimes refers to both itself and YOU, this can be seen in some other dialog that our character makes)
- Another reason could be to refer to multiple players.
If you do not look at the Imaginary Friend for about a minute, looking back will cause a model of the Imaginary Friend to be right next to you for a split second, before turning back in to the regular model at the regular distance.
“Something wicked this way comes…” is a reference to Hakita’s ULTRAKILL in the level 0-S.
- It is also a phrase spoken by the witches in Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
