An example of a hallway with several lockers
Hiding is a game mechanic in Pressure, being the main action that allows players to avoid the threat that certain monsters pose. When the player is close enough to a hiding spot, they are able to hide by interacting with it.
Players can also hide by escaping the line of sight of monsters. For example: hiding behind a desk, away from the Navi-Path, inside vents, or in a side room. This does not work for all monsters, as one monster can still find the player.
Hiding Spots[]
In the Hadal Blacksite, the only available hiding spot is the locker. Lockers are found in nearly every room and allow the player to hide. Occasionally, lockers are inhabited by Puddles of Void-Mass, making them dangerous to any player that enters.
Notes[]
- Only one player can use a given hiding spot at a time. Two players cannot hide in the same spot.
- Hiding instantly grants invincibility to the node monsters once the animation triggers.
- This also applies to Void-Mass's animation.
Cleithrophobia[]
After staying in a locker for long enough, the player will start to experience cleithrophobia, which forces them to exit the locker and temporarily prevents them from re-entering. In the first 5 doors, cleithrophobia will not be experienced, meaning players can hide infinitely in lockers in the first 5 doors.
Cleithrophobia will be more intense as the player progresses, meaning that the player's hiding time is shortened depending on how far they have gotten in the game.
The Chainsmoker Angler variant can forcefully induce Cleithrophobia, shortening the player’s hiding time to only a few seconds.
Trivia[]
- Cleithrophobia is known as the fear of being trapped.
- Cleithrophobia could be compared to the entity Hide from DOORS, due to similar mechanic of kicking a player from their hiding spot, leaving them vulnerable.
- In fact, before Hide was added to DOORS, the player was initially supposed to have claustrophobia to kick them out of their hiding spot. Cleithrophobia & claustrophobia are fundamentally similar, both being fears related to confined spaces. The only difference is that cleithrophobia only triggers when there doesn't seem to be a way out, unlike claustrophobia that triggers in smal spaces in general.
- If you are in a pinch, and you need to hide but have a friend you can hide in a locker with Puddles of Void-Mass and have your friend pull you out before you die.
- A person who has Cleithrophobia is called a Cleithrophobe.
- Making it to the end of The Ridge without hiding in a locker for the first time rewards the player with the "We Didn't Playtest To Make Sure This Was Possible" ("Certified Clown" in-game) badge.
- It is one of the hardest badges to achieve in the game.
- The Four Point Five update made it somewhat easier, adding many new rooms with safe spots as well as the new SPR-INTs that can be used in a pinch.
- It is one of the hardest badges to achieve in the game.
