Z-566 (Candlebearers) are neutral monsters that were first introduced in the 2024 The Raveyard Halloween event, before being brought into the Hadal Blacksite.
Description
Z-566 "Candlebearers" are supposedly made of concrete and metal rebar, having a 19th century English street lantern on their head. they seem to have multiple different areas with rebar poking out of their body as if they came from the wall of a building. Z-566's candle is usually light orange when it's lit, however when instances are in an aggravated state, the candle glow a light blue color. They also each have a part on their body that looks to either be eroded away or scraped off where you can properly see the concrete underneath the finish, as mentioned in the document.
Mechanics
The Raveyard
Candlebearers will slowly walk towards the player and attempt to punch them as soon as they get close enough. They can be frozen by shining a light source on them, whether it be part of the room or a player holding an active light item. However stunning Candlebearers will only work for a short period of time. Upon said period's end, it will become aggravated, beginning to run towards the player with a blue flame in their gas lantern 'head' and no way to stop them other than to outmaneuver them until this aggravated state ends. Given that all players are immediately provided with a Gravelight upon the start of a run or a revive, they will chase you regardless of if you have battery or not, as the Gravelight can still be charged through shaking. Even if you would drop your Gravelight, the area would be way too dark for you to see, as the faint light that emits off of you in the main game is not present, making it nearly impossible to navigate dark rooms. It is worth noting that Z-566 instances will still attempt to chase and kill you regardless of whether you are in possession of your Gravelight or not, despite what the document states.
Hadal Blacksite
The behaviour and mechanics of the Candlebearer are identical as in the Raveyard, however, with a few slight changes.
A Candlebearer has a chance to spawn if the room is dark, and unlike in the Raveyard, will only attack players if they have a light source that's functional, in which cases, if a player isn't carrying any light sources, they will be ignored by the Candlebearer. They will chase the player much like in the Raveyard, and as long as the next room is dark, will continue chasing them, until the next room the player enters isn't dark, in which they will stop. It should also be noted if an Angler or its variants spawn, the candlebearer may continue its chase if it is close enough to the current room, once the lights in the room are broken.
The Ridge
The Candlebearers behave just like normal, however, the ridge now essentially becomes a wild goose chase against a Candlebearer since the chances of one spawning are almost basically guaranteed. Due to the entirety of the Ridge being dark rooms, the Candlebearer will be able to chase you from start to end. The Candlebearer also becomes a huge threat in the Ridge, as while it's not threatening on its own, you'll have to be trying to dodge its attacks and keeping it still, while keeping an eye out for the high prevalence of the node monsters.
Strategy
- The most efficient way to stop the Candlebearers is to shine a light at them. However, make sure you only shine them for short periods of time as shining them for too long will cause them to turn aggressive.
- In the Blacksite, if you're not carrying a light source, you won't need to worry about the Candlebearers as they'll ignore you. They'll only come at you if you have a light source.
- Despite what their size may suggest, the Candlebearers can actually crouch and walk through the doors of the Blacksite. This means they'll be able to chase you like in the Raveyard, as long as the next rooms are dark.
- Even if a room after a Candlebearer instance isn't dark, make sure to keep your guard up as if an Angler spawns, the Candlebearer will be able to continue its pursuit.
- Squiddles are the Candlebearers' best partners in crime, as their presence can limit how much you can shine your light at the Candlebearers without aggravating the Squiddles. If you have one, it's best to use a flash beacon at the start of a Candlebearer room, to check for any squiddles that may be in the area. If there are squiddles, be careful of where you point your light sources. It should also be noted the flash beacon will not stun candlebearers (confirmation needed) due to the short duration of the light.
- As such, due to the high risk of angering squiddles if you're using a lantern to stun Candlebearers, only use it if you have no other options left or if you're sure the room doesn't have any squiddles.
- In the Ridge, a Candlebearer's chances of spawning are almost guaranteed, so it's highly advised you bring code breachers, as Candlebearers pretty much have full access to every room in the ridge due to the darkness. This, combined with node monsters and wall dwellers (though the latter is less of a threat as they'll likely be killed by the former), makes finding keycards much more risky. If you're hiding somewhere that isn't a locker when avoiding a Node Monster (Froger in particular is a great example of this), that may give the Candlebearer an opportunity to catch up to you.
- Candlebearers are immune to the Blacklight, due to the light not being bright enough to stun them, so don't even think about trying.
Variants
Main article: Candlebrute.
A larger, much more powerful version, the "Candlebrutes", has a rare chance of appearing in the Blacksite. It functions almost identically, but unlike the regular Candlebearers, flashing them with lights will only slow them down.
Overseer Comments
"After falling into the lower crypt, the sounds of slams were heard over the EXR-P's provided walkie. It is assumed that they were followed by Z-564 into the crypt, and were beaten to death, though it could have been something else. Once the rave has been shut down, the lower crypt will be examined."

Trivia
- Z-566's mechanics seem to be based off of the Weeping Angels, a race of alien creatures that only move when not being observed, from the famous sci-fi show, Doctor Who, the only difference being the light being shone on the Candlebearers rather than being viewed.
- Z-566 may be reference to the Cerberus enemy from Hakita's ULTRAKILL, as they are both sentient statues seen as enemies and level decorations.
- Z-566 may also be a reference to the Mannequin enemy from Hakita's ULTRAKILL, as they share a familiar unique feature; namely their visibly triple-jointed arms and legs.
- Z-566 also has a variant deemed Z-566-1 - CandleBrute.
- Z-566 is the first (and only) Raveyard enemy to have made it into the Blacksite (as of the 17th of December, 2024.) They were added to the Blacksite in the "Four Point Five" update.
- Z-566 Will only attempt to damage the Player if they have any light source in their inventorу, but if the Player does not have any light source, Z-566 will simply stand in the room and will not show any aggression towards the Player
- If the Player has only Blacklight in their inventory, Z-566 will still attempt to damage them, but will not go directly towards the Player, and will instead walk around them trying to run into them to deal damage. (Due to Blacklight emitting UV instead of regular light)
- If the Player has a light source in their inventory, they can simply throw it away, causing Z-566 to stop behaving aggressively towards the Player and will simply stop, but only until the Player picks up any light source again.
