All it has to do is simply touch a living being and they instantly drop dead.
- Angler’s Document
Z-283-Angler, codenamed “Angler”, is a hostile monster in Pressure acting as one of the most common threats to the players in the Hadal Blacksite.
Appearance
Angler resembles an anglerfish, with numerous sharp, thin teeth and an extra eye. Its distorted features make its open mouth dominate its face. Constantly shrouded in thick dark blue-black smoke or fog, only its face is visible. Angler uses a billboard decal for its face, ensuring it always looks directly at the player, as noted in its documentation.
Mechanics
Angler can spawn if the player's current or previous room has a valid hiding spot. Lights will flicker briefly, and Angler will advance from the attack direction. Occasionally, text will appear at the bottom of the screen to indicate its spawn. When Angler is close, it will screech loudly to warn players to hide. At the peak of its screech, Angler will rush through the room, instantly killing any players in its path before disappearing. Players who hide in time or evade Angler’s line of sight will be safe.
Notes
- Angler cannot spawn in The Control Room, but can be seen in the distance on a separate catwalk.
- Angler can still spawn in the hallways of Sebastian’s Shop, but it cannot enter the shop.
- Angler has a chance to attack from the front, giving different audible cues and less time to react.
- After a player spends a set amount of time in a room, there is a chance for Angler or any other node monster to spawn. This is called a timer spawn.
- Before an Angler attack, the Navi-path of the next door will flicker briefly. This makes it easier to tell when Angler is coming in dark rooms or while passing through a room with Eyefestation.
The Ridge

Angler will spawn very frequently in The Ridge, and the lights will not flicker to signal its arrival. Players have to rely on their hearing and their muscle memory instead of visual cues. While attacking in The Ridge, Angler's sounds will be heard from a longer distance.
Strategy

The best way to avoid Angler is to hide in a locker before it rushes through the room. Make sure to not hide too early, or you will be forced out of your locker due to cleithrophobia. Angler uses a Raycast hitbox - started from the center of the room, larger rooms may have multiple casts - to create its line of sight, so hiding in places that cover your character completely (including office cubicles, separate hallways, and vents) also work to protect you.
If a locker is not available or attempting to earn the "Certified Clown" badge, hiding behind something that blocks line of sight to the center of the room may also work, such as behind a box or desk. The Raycast check seems to only start in the center of the room, so as long as line of sight is broken from that point you should survive.

Trivia
- Angler's mechanic is similar to that of a traditional "rusher" type entity from other games and was inspired by Rush from DOORS, with the only notable difference being that may attack from the front. It could also be inspired by A-120, found in The Rooms in DOORS, which only attacks from the front.
- This is further proven in one of Sebastian's Dialogues regarding about the player dying to Angler, with him saying "That one seemed to be in a rush. Should've gotten out of it's way."
- The "seemed to be in a rush" part references to Rush himself whilst the "should of stayed out of its way" part references to Rush's crucifixion badge, "Stay Out of My Way".
- As of the Floor 2 update to DOORS, Rush can now attack from ahead and behind just like Angler.
- The "seemed to be in a rush" part references to Rush himself whilst the "should of stayed out of its way" part references to Rush's crucifixion badge, "Stay Out of My Way".
- When surviving Angler for the first time, players will receive the "Every Lung Has It's Iron" badge.
- This is further proven in one of Sebastian's Dialogues regarding about the player dying to Angler, with him saying "That one seemed to be in a rush. Should've gotten out of it's way."
- Pandemonium is not part of the Angler family, despite also being a 2D monster and having similar mechanics.
- The same thing applies to Death Angel.
- There is a variant of Angler known as "The Mirage" that does not actually attack the player despite audio and light cues. (Citation needed)
- There is a bug where Angler's line of sight may still be able to reach you in vents, so it is recommended to use closets rather than hiding behind objects.
- While Angler's document says that "All it has to do is simply touch a living being and they instantly drop dead.", its jumpscare indicates it actually bites down, seemingly swallowing them too. However, if the player uses the freecam before dying, Angler simply passes through them.
- The subtitled warning that appears when Angler makes its very first appearance in a run also contain a few easter eggs. These include but are not limited to: "Something Wicked This Way Comes.", (ULTRAKILL's [0-S: SOMETHING WICKED]), "YOU'RE GONNA DIE!!!!!!!!!!!", and "the end is never the end is never the end is never the end..." (Stanley Parable), “The nightmare repeats itself every time.” (Five Nights at Freddy’s fan song “I Got No Time” by The Living Tombstone).
- While in The Ridge, the Angler's eyes will not be present on its sprite or jumpscare. This does not extend to Pinkie nor Blitz. It is not known why this happens.
- The Angler is a Male Fish as it doesn't have a lure which female Anglerfish only have.
- If the player looks left before entering the The Control Room, they can see Angler speeding down a catwalk.
- Angler is an Angler Fish, the same as Pinkie.
- As seen at 5:47 of this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRzFWm9dw4k there is a bug where the light can flicker, and no variations of Angler or itself would appear.
Variation
- Angler has 4 " variants" known as Z-283-Blitz, Z-283-Pinkie, Z-283-Froger and Z-283-Chainsmoker. These "variants" are similar to Angler, with slight changes to each of them.
