The 2024 April Fools Event, also known as Evil Mode, was a pre-release limited-time event that released during the final test for Pressure on April 16, 2024. It added the Evil Mode and the limited-time event monster The Educator.
The event ended on April 24, 2024, at 11:35 PM CST, with the Evil Button being removed from all servers.
Changes[]
Hadal Blacksite[]

The evil button and its accompanying item
The evil button was added to the Submarine Dock for a limited time, acting as the trigger for Evil Mode. The evil button was locked behind a door near the first room’s Keycard that requires a Code Breacher to open. Below the evil button, a random item was guaranteed to spawn.
Next to the evil button was a lever similar to that of one from the DOORS update The Backdoors, presumably an Easter Egg, but it does not have any functionality.
Evil Mode[]

Once all players in a run press the evil button, all of the lights will shut off and The Educator will spawn after a short speech. During Evil Mode, several changes are made to make the game more difficult. These changes include:
- Nearly all of the lights throughout the entire Hadal Blacksite will flicker on and off by default, like how lights normally behave in The Ridge.
- The Let-Vand Zone with Trenchbleeders does not spawn.
- After pulling out the crystal, all sections outside of the second schoolhouse will be completely dark with no light sources.
- The Educator is now active, and will advance toward the player for the entire run
- Pandemonium's minigame is extended and made more difficult, with the cursor’s safe space moving randomly between the four corners of the screen with every slam
- Pandemonium is also guaranteed to spawn once during a run around door 75 if Pandemonium has not already spawned before.
- Angler can spawn right after a Pandemonium attack.

The lights of two angered Eyefestations during Evil Mode.
- Eyefestation spawns are guaranteed, are always enraged, and have a chance of entering the next open rooms. Eyefestation also has the potential to spawn twice in areas with more than one open window.
- Good People are considerably more likely to spawn; with multiple doors in each room.
- Angler is considerably more likely to spawn during an encounter with Eyefestation.
- Angler is likely to spawn after every door in The Ridge
- Void lockers are red instead of purple and deal damage faster when a player is trapped in multiplayer.
- Sebastian will prevent you from entering his shop; unless his room spawns in a flooded room (probably a bug)
Partway through testing, a “True Evil Button” was added to the evil button room, and Eyefestation’s enraged music was disabled by default. Pressing the true evil button re-enabled this music, making it harder. The badge for evil mode was split into one badge for each respective mode, with winners of the lesser evil mode getting a lessened reward.
In place of the Grand Encounters around door 70 and after The Ridge, The Educator’s Schoolhouse is guaranteed to spawn, requiring a certain amount of notebooks to be found before allowing passage through. The second schoolhouse is considerably more difficult with more notebooks, no lights, and the ability for angler to spawn.
If a player completed true evil mode during this testing session, they would be granted the ability to purchase The Notebook in the Pre-Round Shop.
Strategy[]
It’s best to play Evil Mode solo, but with good communication, a duo can work. Before pushing the evil button, unlock the first door and loot the first five rooms for the best chance at finding items, stopping before opening door 6. If door 6 is opened, the door back to the first room will be locked.
If playing with multiple players, having a player fall slightly behind and listen to potential audio queues and door number flickers can assist in preparing for Angler's and Pandemonium's attacks.
The Classrooms in the second part of The Educator's Schoolhouse are not safe, and Angler can attack you in them if you are too close to the walls or near the doors. If you know he is coming, it is best to get a locker ready.
It is highly suggested to turn up the gamma value and set your graphic quality to 1, as it helps you see much, MUCH better in the dark.
Trivia[]
